Another great season has past, I would like to thank all of the permit buyers for supporting the snowmobile club this season. Also a big thanks goes out to the landowners who generouslly lend their land so we can build some great trails.

Stake removal is also underway and hoping to be completed by this weekend. Thanks again and look forward to the 08 / 09 season.
Cheers,

We were finally able to open the trails for short while. Unfortunately, the mild temperatures have closed them again. There is a good base on the ground now and all we need is a little bit more snow to open them back up.

We also need more volunteers to help out with organizing any events. With the few of us out there checking the trails, grooming, patrolling on daily basis as well as the paper work required, it doesn't leave much time for anything else. I love putting on the miles myself when I can !!!!

Unfortunately at this time we are unable to hold any events as we did in previous years, due to the fact the few volunteers don't have anymore time to commit.

More volunteers are needed.

Anyone wishing to help organize an event or have any other ideas are encouraged to send in an email or phone call. Even better come on out to the next club meeting on Mar. 4 / 08 at 7:30 pm in Beachville at the clubhouse.

Westwood Hills S C.

Trail staking is now under way, thank you to the few volunteers that came out today to help pound stakes and put the signage in.

We will be going out again next Sunday at 9:00 am sharp. Any body wishing to help out for the day would be greatly appreciated.

We are holding an open house and the clubhouse next Sat. November 24 from 1-4 pm come on out and pick-up your trail pass if you haven't done so as time is running out on the pre-season discount. Check out all the changes the club has under gone. Hot and cold refreshments and desserts will be served.

We look forward to meet old and new faces

Presidents Message 2007

It's hard to believe another snowmobile season is nearly upon us. We are now starting to plan for the preparation of the trail staking process.

It is with our deepest sympathies that we say good bye to Lorne Heaslip. Lorne passed away suddenly in September, he will be sadly missed by all. Lorne was the last founding member of Westwood Hills Inc. and it was of his hard work and dedication that we have our club today. He was very active within the club and still acted as Secretary / Treasurer till the end. We are all extremely grateful for all he has done and will notice the gap as we start the preparation work for this years trails.

For those of you who don't know me, I'm Kurt Wallace the new president of Westwood Hills Snowmobile club. Mike Leis, our past president has stepped down from his position. However, he will still be very active within the club and I'm sure that now with the newest addition to his family, he will be extremely busy there as well. However we hope Sharon will let him out on occasion!

I have been actively involved with the club since winter 2002. My wife, Samantha and I became the volunteer Co-coordinators last year. Spring of this year I was voted in as President and Samantha took on the positions of Secretary/Treasurer. We both look Forward to the challenges ahead of us and intend to be as involved as always, with our 6 kids in tow!

Paul has also stepped down from his executive positions. We thank Paul for all his hard work and wish him well.

Brad still remains very active within the club and is still involved with trail signage and trail patrol. We look forward to getting the new season started!

We will be holding our first general meeting on the first Tuesday of November. The meetings are held at the clubhouse in Beachville. Everyone is welcome to come out!

We are very excited and look forward to meeting old and new faces at the clubhouse. Make sure to check the web site for upcoming events and work dates. Please feel free to call or email with questions or concerns.

All that's left to say for now is Let it Snow, Let it snow, Let it snow !!!!!

Kurt Wallace,
Westwood Hills S C.
Club President.

Presidents Message 2007

Well another season is fast approaching as the snow is falling in mid-October as I write this. Hopefully this will be a sign or a good omen of thing to come this year.

Looking forward to this season we have some new faces and new challenges facing us. Roy Burford has stepped down as Volunteer Co-Ordinator due to personal and family commitments. Roy was our Volunteer of the Year last year, hopefully we will see him get back into the sport in the coming years. I am sure anyone who fielded a call from Roy found him to be a great recruiter and motivator. Good luck Roy, I hope to see you back in our ranks soon…!!! So who is taking over for Roy…??

I am happy to announce Kurt Wallace along with his wife Sam, will be filling this void for us. Kurt and Sam are dedicated snowmobilers and Kurt spends a considerable amount of time with us preparing the trails you ride each fall. Please be supportive of Kurt and Sam in this new position and don't be afraid to say "YES" to a day or two of volunteering on the trails.

Other developments on a club level are some new signage and map boards that you will see on the trail this year, more land leveling and improvements to trail routing. The Website saw a lot of traffic last year, with a few people signing up and using the buy and sell, the forums to post topics or questions. Please give us some feedback on what you think would make the web-site better or more informative. I know most people use it mainly for trail conditions or just to see if we are open, closed or limited.

The volunteer BBQ will be taking place October 28th at my place, all volunteers will be receiving a call and someone will be drawn to win a 2007 OFSC pass as well as other prizes will be awarded. The Volunteer of The Year will also be voted on and named.

Trail clean-up will be starting Sunday October 29th cleaning out the bushes we can get to, I hope to see you out to volunteer or at an event this year.

Feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns,

Happy New Year everyone.....!!!! Unfortunately the snow has not made a major appearance in 06 yet......We are cancelling the open house scheduled for this Sunday due to the absence of SNOW.......

All the newsletters have gone out to some 300+ people who purchased a permit from our club last year, so the traffic on the site should start to take off....some snow would help too....!!!

If you are looking around at the site for the first time, make sure to register for the chat forum.....list your items to sell, ask a technical question or just meet some new people to ride with.......

We hope to re-schedule the open house so everyone can come out to the new location and have a fun day with family and friends.....I will post on this news blog as well as the EVENTS page when we have a new date set......

Take Care, and say a prayer for snow.....We deserve it.....!!!

Mike Leis,
President,
WWHSC.

Hello everyone, the Westwood Hills Snowmobile Club will be holding a driver training course for children between the ages of 12-16 years of age. We hold 1-2 of these courses per year and it is a great introductory course for a young snowmobiler getting into the sport. The course is going to be held at either our Clubhouse on the Beachville Road or at Bowyer Marine on Hwy #2 depending upon the size of the class. We will probably cut the course off at the first 25 who sign up to keep the class size manageable. For more info or to sign up call me at:(519) 533-1667

TRAIL CLEAN-UP IS UNDERWAY......

Well, snowmobile season is nearly here again and I for one can’t wait for the first large dumping of snow to cover our trail system with a fresh blanket of snow. Unfortunately we need to prepare and ready our trails for the coming season.....To do this we need more dedicated volunteers to come out and help with the preparation of our trails. We are going to try various ways this year to encourage people to come out and lend a helping hand this year. Prizes and give-away’s are one way we are going to attempt this, but word of mouth seems to be the best way to get more people out. We currently have a Core of 8-10 people who do the majority of work and this needs to change, we really need to inject some new blood into our system, with fresh ideas. If you have a chainsaw, quad, or just a pair of willing hands, we can find a suitable job for you somewhere. Whether you can spare a few hours, 40 hours, or if you are retired and looking for something to occupy your time, you can meet and mingle with new people, find new riding partners, or just discuss snowmobiling in general. Please call myself or any of the executive if you can help in any capacity, bring a group of buddies out for the day, if we had 30- 40 volunteers, the work would be completed in a few weeks instead of months. This is YOUR club and it is only as good as you make it, come out and make it happen!!!

President's Message 2006

Hello everyone, I hope everybody had a safe and enjoyable summer, the weather was co-operative in the way of sunshine. But I can't help but dream of having as much snow this coming winter. Unfortunately the winter will soon be upon us and we have a ton of work to accomplish as usual.

We held our second annual Volunteer BBQ this October 1st. honouring our volunteers for their dedicated work on our trails and in our club. Unfortunately, we only have 28 people we can call volunteers. With the bulk of the trail work being carried out by 10 or so key individuals. We also had numerous draws that were drawn from a drum, for our various volunteers. The more times you volunteered, the better your chance at winning a prize, as your name went into the draw for every time you volunteered. The Grand Prize was a 2004/2005 OFSC. and a trophy was also presented to the Club Vlounteer Of the Year as determined by the a vote at our last meeting of members. We are STILL in DESPERARTE NEED OF NEW VOLUNTEERS. Please call someone on the executive to volunteer some of your time. This year more than ever YOU can make a difference in YOUR CLUB. We sell almost 300 permits, we should have that volunteer number at 100 people or more.

Our club house is moving as I write this message. It will be on the main trail heading North and South, located at the Beachville Rd. directly across from the Beachville Lime Museum. We are hoping to run a few new events and activities this year as you will see on the schedule, I hope a few will call and volunteer to help out with any of these events. We are looking to get our female membership numbers up this year as well, with organized rides and activities. If you are the wife of a snowmobiler or just an active female snowmobiler, and would like to get out and meet and mingle with others come out and have some fun.

Well, with that I am going to end this message, and get to work on our trails, We appreciate all the positive feedback and thumbs up we got regarding our trails last year......give your groomer operator a big thumbs up as you pass, it means the world to them...

Take Care and see you on the trails!

President,
